Statement

From the desk of the General Secretary, Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana

The South African Council of Churches (SACC) welcomes the Nelson Mandela Foundation report that clears senior executives, CEO Sello Hatang and COO Limpho Monyamane.

We commend the board of the Foundation for taking any allegations of wrongdoing seriously, and occasioning an independent investigation into the allegations.

The Nelson Mandela Foundation has set a good example for all our organisations, in the non-profit, public and private sectors, that even with the most trusted executives, investigating and reaching conclusion is good for the integrity of the institution. Sello Hatang and Limpho  Monyamane humbled themselves to the process and removed themselves from the organisation for the purpose of investigations; leaving no doubt as to the fairness of the process that has subsequently cleared them.

The SACC has experienced Mr Hatang as a person of integrity, high ethical standards and accountability in all our institutional interactions. We hope that he will get back to work and continue to serve the legacy of Nelson Mandela.

We pray for the necessary healing that may need special attention following this bruising ordeal, both for the affected executives, the staff team and the anonymous complainants who remain in the organisation.

We offer our support to CEO Sello Hatang, Board Chair Professor Njabulo Ndebele and the board, in rebuilding and sustaining the great heritage of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
