SACC Gauteng Statement on Rev Moerane’s appointment as Mayor of Emfuleni

February 18, 2019

Media Release

The South African Council of Churches (SACC) in Gauteng wishes to officially communicate that the Provincial Secretary, Rev. Gift Moerane, who accepted appointment as Executive Mayor of Emfuleni in the Sedibeng district of Gauteng and was inaugurated earlier this month, has left the employment of the SACC. By taking up the position of Executive Mayor, Rev Moerane has indicated his intention to pursue a new career path in public office.

Rev. Moerane has served the SACC with dedication over many years, and he has dealt with numerous challenging situations with great distinction. We believe he will bring the same dedication to his new position serving the people of Emfuleni. We wish him well in this new phase of his life.

It should be emphasised that our regard for Rev. Moerane and his work for the churches in the ecumenical movement does not imply our endorsement of the political party that nominated him, or our support for any political positions he may take in the course of his new career.

The SACC in Gauteng remains committed to the best interests of all the people and communities in the province. In our pursuit of a better South Africa we will continue to work for justice and peace, and invite all people of faith to join us in our efforts, regardless of their political affiliation.

In the interim as we look to appoint a new Provincial Secretary, please kindly communicate with SACC Gauteng Provincial Chairperson, Dr André Bartlett on and 083 274 5745 for all SACC Gauteng matters.

May God bless us all.
